Usui Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan and was developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. It is based on the concept that a "universal life energy" flows through all living things, and this energy can be harnessed and directed to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.

Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing, where they place their hands lightly on or just above the recipient's body in specific positions. They channel the universal life energy into the recipient, which can remove energy blockages, balance the body's energy flow, and facilitate the natural healing process.

Origins of  Usui Reiki

Mikao Usui was seeking the answer to how he could access the power to heal, as described in ancient texts and spiritual traditions. Usui was driven by a desire to understand how to harness spiritual energy to bring healing to those in need, and it was during his meditation and fasting on Mount Kurama that he received the enlightenment that led to the development of Reiki on the 21st day.

He initially used the message and the healing ability he gained to treat himself and his family. He experimented with the energy he had accessed, confirming its healing power by applying it to various ailments and conditions. Once he was confident in its effectiveness, Usui began teaching and sharing this healing method with others. He established a practice in Kyoto, Japan, where he offered Reiki healing sessions and trained students in the Reiki method, emphasising the importance of self-healing and spiritual development.

Reiki was introduced to the West by one of his students, Hawayo Takata, a Japanese-American woman who became a Reiki master. She established Reiki centers in the United States in the mid-20th century.

Hawayo Takata, had two daughters: Alice Takata Furumoto and Harriet Takata Kawamura. However, in the context of Reiki, Alice Takata Furumoto is more frequently mentioned because her son, Phyllis Lei Furumoto, became a significant figure in the Reiki community. Phyllis Lei Furumoto succeeded Hawayo Takata and was recognised as the Grandmaster of the Usui Shiki Ryoho system of Reiki. She was instrumental in further spreading and formalizing Reiki practice in the West.

 What to expect:

Explanation: Dr Forest will explain what Reiki is, emphasising that it’s a form of energy healing that works on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. She will clarify that the client remains fully clothed, and may either lightly touch, tap or hover my hands over specific areas of the body.

Comfort: The client is asked to lie down on a comfortable massage table, usually on their back, with a pillow and blanket available if needed. The environment is designed to be serene, often with soft lighting, calming music, and perhaps the scent of essential oils.

Dr Forest may guide the client through a few deep breaths to help them relax and prepare for the session.

Energy Scanning: She will begin by scanning the client’s energy field with her hands to identify areas of energy blockage or imbalance.
She will then proceed to place her hands lightly on or just above various parts of the client’s body that she is directed to, starting typically at the head and moving down toward the feet. Common hand positions include the head, shoulders, heart, abdomen, and legs.

Dr Forest may spend several minutes on each area, allowing the energy to flow. Clients often experience warmth, tingling, or a sense of deep relaxation during this time.

Dr Forest is a conduit for Reiki energy, channeling it to the client to encourage the body’s natural healing processes. The energy will go where it is most needed.

Grounding: As the session concludes, she will perform a grounding technique, which might involve gently touching the client’s feet or shoulders to help them feel centered.

After the session, she will sit with the client to discuss their experience, any sensations they felt, and any insights that arose. This is also a time for the client to ask questions or share their thoughts.

Aftercare Advice: Dr Forest suggests to drink water, rest and take time to integrate the session’s effects.

Reflection: Clients often feel deeply relaxed, peaceful, and sometimes emotional after a Reiki session. They may choose to reflect on the experience quietly or share their thoughts with me.

Ongoing Sessions: She may recommend follow-up sessions depending on the client’s goals and the results of the session.

"Each Reiki session is unique, tailored to the client’s needs, and designed to promote holistic healing. The overall aim is to create a safe, nurturing environment where the client can relax and allow their body and mind to restore balance."
